Dunes at Sossusvlei
Dunes at Sossusvlei

This is the story of our holiday in Namibia in August, 2007. We were intially prompted by an advertised tour in a Trailfinders booklet. We decided, however, that there was no organised tour which really suited us and we decided to build our own.

After some internet research we booked air tickets with Air Namibia and arranged a 4x4 hire with a roof tent from Value Car and 4x4 Rental. We didn't book anything else, partly through inertia but mainly to give us the flexibility to stay longer where we wished and move on when we wanted to. Any booking later in the holiday would severely restrict this flexibilty.

This actually turned out to be a good choice and we rarely had any difficulty finding a suitable place to stay. Camping sites were not busy in general and most B&Bs had rooms available. We did book a campsite close to Etosha. This is one area where booking really is necessary.
